JBR is providing ongoing environmental cleanup services at a 52-acre former petroleum-storage and wood treatment chemical blending facility. Environmental data collected from remedial investigations, groundwater monitoring, and cleanup activities are managed in an MS Access database, which interfaces directly with the GIS. JBR then uses GIS to prepare site maps with the data for evaluation of groundwater elevations and flow, delineation of contaminant impacts in soil and groundwater, and analysis of site topography and related stormwater flows. The site maps prepared using GIS are included in reports which are submitted to the client, the client’s attorney, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
As part of a recent soil remedial action at the site, JBR also used GIS to illustrate the distribution of contaminant concentrations in soil prior to and following removal of shallow impacted soil. The post-remediation distribution maps were used in demonstrating statistical compliance with DEQ’s risk-based screening levels as a basis for obtaining a No Further Action determination for a portion of the site.
