JBR created a GIS model for the Dixie National Forest (DNF) to determine sites suitable for oil and gas leasing. Fifty shapefiles for as many resources were incorporated into the model. From the model, JBR created an interactive spatial database able to identify potential impacts from oil and gas development. The end product was a comprehensive geodatabase for each alternative showing what types of oil and gas leasing activity would be permitted on the forest. The model for the selected alternative will be used as a tool to evaluate requests for new oil and gas exploration on DNF land.
JBR prepared an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Dixie National Forest for forest-wide planning, to determine which lands with federal oil and gas rights to make administratively available for oil and gas leasing and under what conditions. Click to see more about this project.
